Sometimes it happens that a child needs some kind of props for a holiday, but there is none. But there is a little free time and various improvised materials. In such a situation, if there is a desire to create, you can make a helmet for a knight with your own hands with a child. It will save time and bring a lot positive emotions. What could be more interesting than joint creativity with your own child?
There are special schemes by which you can make a knight's helmet out of cardboard. However, there are a huge number of them on the Internet, so it makes no sense to give an example: everyone can find any scheme at their discretion.
Below are a few workshops on making a helmet for a paper boy.
In order to make a helmet out of paper, you need to measure the circumference of the head of the future owner. In accordance with the length, a rectangle with a height of at least 20 cm must be cut out of thick paper. After that, you need to make several identical strips half a circle long and about 10 centimeters wide. These will be the plates that cover the knight's head at the back of the head. It remains to cut out a rectangle - protection for the chin, the size of which should be selected individually. Collect all the received parts into a helmet and fasten with threads in the cheekbone area to make a movable connection. The back of the head can be decorated with a feather or any other decorations. If necessary, the finished product is spray-painted and dried thoroughly before being worn.
This method will take more time, however, the finished craft will look much more spectacular. You will need:
First you need to sculpt the desired shape of the helmet from plasticine and let it dry so that it becomes harder. It’s good if there is plastic at home, which, after drying, will no longer be able to wrinkle and take on a different shape. In order to make the shape more ideal, you can use a balloon, on which plasticine will be directly molded.
After the blank is made, you can start working with papier-mâché. To begin with, you can cover the future helmet with several layers of napkins, alternating them with PVA or paste. This is necessary so that the inside of the helmet is not so rough. After that, you can cover the craft with newspapers with glue. However, if time permits, it is better to wait until each layer dries, otherwise the craft will not be durable. When the paper already holds its shape, but has not yet completely hardened, you need to cut the workpiece in half, remove the plasticine or balloon, and continue gluing without it, masking the seams with paper. After everything is ready, you need to prime the resulting craft with PVA or white paint, and cover it with any desired color. A helmet visor can be made by analogy, decorating it as desired. The main thing is not to forget about the anatomical features of the future owner and measure the width of his face. After that, both parts must be fastened with any movable connection.
For lovers of originality, there is a way - to crochet a hat-helmet at home. Not every needlewoman will be able to do this, knitting requires a lot of time and perseverance, but if you still knit a helmet for a boy, the result will justify all the time spent. In addition, now such hats are in fashion.

Indeed, for the manufacture of some elements of the costume, sometimes you have to resort to extraordinary technological discoveries. What is at least the task of making a heroic helmet! But she also has a few options. The first is to make a papier-mâché helmet. To do this, first measure the circumference of the child's head and inflate a balloon of this volume. Mark the approximate line of the bottom edge of the helmet, focusing on the size of the child's head and samples of real ones. To get a pointed conical shape on top of the helmet, mold the tip of the appropriate shape and attach it to the ball at the top of the future heroic headdress.
Then evenly glue the ball with a sharp tip using PVA glue or starch paste with pieces of torn newspaper to the marked border (the first layer is pieces of newspaper soaked in water). Make at least seven newspaper layers. The edges of the border may be uneven - they can then be trimmed.
Dry the resulting workpiece well. Release the air and remove it along with the plasticine tip. Refine the bottom line of the helmet and carefully cut off the excess paper. The main part of the helmet is ready. Following the model of a real old Russian helmet (helmet), cut out and glue additional details to your product (nose cap, half mask protecting the upper part of the face). You can wrap the edges of the helmet with a relief cord for decoration and glue it.
Paint the helmet silver. To give the helmet a natural look, you can mix silver paint with black and in some places apply the resulting color to the surface of the headgear. Paint the inside with black paint. Let dry.
From a fabric with silver sequins (or mesh fabric), cut out the back of the helmet - aventail (in the original - chain mail mesh that protected the neck and shoulders). Gathering a little, attach the fabric to the base of the helmet with a glue gun. The heroic helmet is ready.
The second solution to our problem is to make a helmet from a round large plastic one. Mark on the bottom line of the helmet. From caps of different sizes and other materials, build a tip and screw it to the neck of the bottle. Cut off unnecessary parts of the bottle. Cut and glue, if necessary, additional pieces of cardboard. Cover the helmet with silver spray paint. Cut out and attach with double-sided tape a aventail made of shiny fabric.
The third solution is a helmet made of dense fabric according to the Red Army pattern (it was the heroic helmet that served as the prototype for the headdress of the Red Army). My two year old son has a knight set - shield and sword. But there is no knight's helmet.
I decided to fix this and make a helmet that will also be a gift by February 23rd. I made a helmet in the same style as a purchased shield with a sword - in dark colors.
There was a self-adhesive film under dark marble, which I used for crafts. The pizza box came in handy too. That is, to create the long-awaited knight's helmet, we did not have to buy anything additionally. The helmet of a German knight, approximately 1290, was taken as the basis.
The main material is cardboard and self-adhesive film. For crafts, a cardboard box from under a large pizza was used.
Cardboard blanks for making a helmet
Templates were made according to the size of the child's head. There were nine in total. On the assembled helmet, I numbered all the details so that it would be convenient for further assembly.
I glued the parts with thin strips of double-sided tape.
Then we disassemble the helmet, lay it out on a self-adhesive film and cut it out according to the templates. We stick the film on cardboard blanks.
We assemble the helmet by gluing the parts with Moment glue, glued the upper part with a glue gun for greater strength.
The presented version of the pattern has been roaming the Internet for a long time. According to him, most pothelms are made. Patterns are recommended to be printed through Photoshop and can be cut out. Just do not rush to make a helmet, I recommend making helmet paper model, and then suddenly it will not be your size. Do not forget that the helmet is worn on the balaclava, so it is necessary to head circumference add 10 cm- let's say your head circumference is 57 cm, then the helmet is made as if the head circumference is 67 cm.
1. Cut out templates from 2 mm steel, except for the back part, which can also be made from metal a little thinner than the thickness, since it will be necessary to perform flanging.
2. Give the helmet cover on a metal plate a hemispherical shape, straighten it.
3. Bend the side plates with a pipe. It is advisable to mark 4 holes for rivets on the side parts, rivet these parts onto 2 central rivets (Fig. 1). The joint width is 1.5 cm.
4. The helmet cover can be connected to the side parts by welding, then the outer seam can be cleaned, and if semicircular petals are added to the finished template (Fig. 2). Bend these petals and rivet them "in the secret" from the inside of the side walls (Fig. 3).
5. With the help of a round blank on the decorative strip, make a bend (Fig. 4), and rivet it to the top of the helmet. For a better fit of this bar to the top cover, you can tap it with a fluoroplastic hammer (Fig. 5).
6. Bend the front of the helmet and knock out a vertical rib on it.
7. You can make an additional decorative overlay to the front part, which will also play additional protection. To do this, connect the front part with the side walls using bolts. Take a piece of paper, attach it to the front and draw patterns. The width of the overlays is 1.5 cm (Fig. 6). Glue these patches on.
8. Flange on the back. On a metal blank, bend the edge (Fig. 7) and fit it to the shape of the helmet. Mark and drill holes both on the back and on the side walls.
9. Assemble the helmet completely on the bolts, and removing the bolts through one, rivet the helmet with rivets.
10. Bend and fit the bow arrow and rivet it (Fig. 8).
11. Attach a balaclava to the helmet, but this is at the discretion of the manufacturer.
1) Cut out the plates, remembering that the frontal and occipital plates are the same and their pattern.
2) Finish the edges and corners of the plates.
3) Form the frontal and occipital plates of the top of the helmet and rivet them together, with an overlap of 7-8mm (3/10") between them.
4) Drill 5 mm (3/16 in.) rivet holes according to the pattern.
5) Bend outward into the top cap of the helmet, fold the edges of the cap inward an inch (2.54 cm). This will be the support for attaching the lid to the frontal and occipital plate.
6) Insert the helmet cover from the inside (if necessary, adjust it so that it fits snugly). Through the holes in the frontal and occipital plate, mark with a felt-tip pen the places for the holes for riveting.
7) Drill holes in the cap and rivet the cap and top of the helmet.
8) Shape the back plate to match the top of the helmet and arrange the rivet holes according to the pattern.
9) Through the holes in the lower back plate, mark the bottom row of holes in the upper back plate with a felt pen and drill them. Attach attach the bottom back plate to the top
10) Drill holes for breathing and crosses on the faceplate.
11) Fit the faceplate to the helmet and attach it to the rest of the helmet in the same manner as described above.
12) Polish the helmet and brass plates for the cross.
13) Attach the arms of the brass cross over the eye slits.
14) Attach the main part of the brass cross with rivets. Don't forget to use a strip of steel reinforcement under the part of the cross that goes between the eyes.
15) Refinish the helmet and cross if needed.
